This very special lady celebrated 82nd birthday yesterday. My Oma is truly an amazing, resiliant human being. From surviving the war as a young girl, to immigrating to Canada, raising 4 kids and help run a family restaurant, her accomplishments could fill this post.
But it wouldn't really tell you the kind of person my Oma is. She's fairly quiet and unassuming, always quick to smile or laugh and she doesn't stay still for more than a few minutes at a time. And if you plan to stop in for a visit, she's guaranteed to have something delicious cooking on the stove.
But what makes my Oma truly special is her love of music and dancing. Even at 82 years old, one of her favourite pastimes is heading to the Legion with the ladies to dance. At the mention of it, her face will light up and she'll start to sway a little. She will tell you 'Dancing keeps me young!' And her zest for lIfe is infectious!
She continues to be a shining example of how I want to embrace life in all it's ups and downs. How important it is to keep moving and find something that brings you joy and do it - no matter how old you may be.
Happy Birthday Oma!
